The Baking Group meets once each week, usually on Tuesday afternoon. We bake for Grantham Passage - a charity for the homeless – and in readiness for our monthly coffee mornings, which are held on the last Wednesday of each month. All are welcome; it is nice to meet friends and family and enjoy a drink and a cake.
Many of the Cree Centre members enjoy baking; they participate in many ways: mixing, stirring, weighing, decorating. Melanie is excellent at making coffee cake; she makes this with very little support and it is always the first cake to sell out. Neil, Christine and Sarah are other regular bakers and other members like to come into the group for the sounds, smells and tastes – a wonderful sensory experience. There is nothing more satisfying than sensing the aroma of cakes baking in the oven then seeing the results when they come out. We bake a variety of cupcakes, biscuits, pastries sandwich cakes and always a savoury bake, so there is something for everyone.
Once each year we choose a charity to donate the profits from the coffee morning. This year our September coffee morning is on Wednesday 24th and will raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. Please come along and bring family and friends to support this worthwhile charity.
